My name is Malia Soberano and I am currently a Team USA Judo member. I am the first female — born and raised — and still training out of Hawaii, to make it onto the IJF World Tour. I am so thankful that I get to represent Hawaii all around the world.
My goals are to continue fighting at international competitions and become ranked as one of the top judoka in the world so that I can qualify for the LA Olympics in 2028. As a competitor, I continue to be an active role model for young judoka. I’ve fully invested myself in paving the way for up and coming judoka by dedicating my time (outside of my own training) to teaching and coaching as an assistant instructor for Aiea Hongwanji Judo Club and as the girl’s head coach for Aiea High School.
Ultimately, I hope to show that being from a small island in the middle of the ocean is not a reason to stop you from going after your goals. Through my current Journey, I hope to show any up and coming Hawaii judoka, that it is possible.
